Tigers Bounce Back As They Handle The Warriors In Iowa

Forest City, Iowa- The Dakota Wesleyan football team got off to a fast start Saturday afternoon on the road, jumping out to a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and never trailed as they beat Waldorf 42-14 in GPAC play to end their two-game skid.

The Tigers opened up the scoring with a 2-yard TD run by Koby Kayser to give Dakota Wesleyan an early 7-0 lead with 9:51 left in the 1st quarter. The Tigers would strike again just before the end of the quarter as Landon Iverson scored on a 1-yard TD run to extend their lead to 14-0.

Dakota Wesleyan’s defense kept Waldorf scoreless the entire first half as the Tigers held the Warriors offense to -9 yards rushing in the half. Dakota Wesleyan would get on the board again just before halftime as Carter Robinson threw his first touchdown pass on the day to Cole Holden from 39 yards out to give the Tigers a 21-0 advantage at halftime.

The third quarter featured a lot of offense from both teams as the Tigers and Warriors exchanged two touchdown drives each. The Tigers got back on the scorebard quickly in the third quarter as Robinson threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Mason Barnhard with 11:30 left in the quarter to put Dakota Wesleyan up 28-7. Waldorf responded with their first score of the game, a 67-yard touchdown pass from Chris Walter to Kadin Abele a minute later to make the score 28-7. The Tigers came right back with a 6-play drive that covered 75 yards and ended in a 7-yard touchdown run by Lane Darrow halfway through the third quarter to put Wesleyan up 35-7. Before the end of the quarter, Waldorf answered back with another touchdown pass from Walter, an 11-yard strike to Justice Johnson as the Tigers took a 35-14 lead into the fourth quarter.

Dakota Wesleyan put their final stamp on the game early in the final quarter with Carter Robinson‘s third touchdown pass of the game as he found Preston Nedved on a 1-yard connection to seal the win for the Tigers 42-14 as their defense kept the Warriors scoreless the final 13 minutes of the game.

Dakota Wesleyan outgained Waldorf 477-279 in total offense and held the Warriors to just 44 yards rushing in the game. The Tigers were led by Carter Robinson, who threw for 254 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Walter threw for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns.
