Sioux Center, Iowa – Dakota Wesleyan fell to the No. 1 Dordt Defenders 89-46. The 46 points is the fewest points the Tigers have been held to all season with the next being their 47 against the University of Nebraska. Emma Yost and Anna Campbell were the bright spots for the Tigers, both scoring double figures with Yost netting 14 and Campbell pouring in 10. DWU was held to just 26% shooting from the floor while the Defenders shot a blazing 65%.
Recap The Tigers fell behind the Defenders early who had a clear gameplan of fast paced offense, crisp ball movement, and catching the Tigers lacking in transition. Dordt racked up 10 transition points in the first half compared to DWU zero. Dakota Wesleyan fell behind early 13-2 but rallied with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to four. After this though was all Dordt who dominated the Tigers on both ends of the court holding DWU to just 15 points in the first and 14 in the second quarter while also committing nine turnovers. The Defenders shot a staggering 76% from the floor in the first half while DWU was held to just a 36% shooting percentage.
The Tigers in the first half were able to find success inside with Emma Yost‘s 12 points and Anna Campbell‘s eight. Dakota Wesleyan, a team that typically wins the rebounding and paint battle was outdone by the Defenders 16-12 in rebounding and 34-18 in the paint. Dordt didn’t back off the pedal in the second half winning each quarter by scores of 18-7 and 19-10 for a 89-46 final score.
