MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell’s Tyler Christensen threw a no-hitter at Pierre on Monday afternoon in a 2-0, game one victory. Christensen allowed two walks while striking out five on 83 pitches. A Jaxson Hartman sacrifice fly to right broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning to score Carter McCormick from third. Mitchell added another run in the top of the seventh inning as Parker Mandel singled in Hudson Borgan from third to make it 2-0. Pierre won game two of the doubleheader 8-3 with four runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth. Mitchell took the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth inning, aided by a Pierre error and a wild pitch. Mitchell, 7-5 on the season, will be at Sioux Falls Lincoln on Tuesday for a single game at 6 pm, before returning home on Friday for a doubleheader vs. Sturgis at 4:30 pm. KORN News Radio FM 101.3/AM 1490 and KORNRadio.com will have the pregame show starting at 4:15 pm.
— Mitchell Kernels boys tennis split a pair of home duals on Monday at Hitchcock Park losing to Sioux Falls Christian 8-1, then picking up a 9-0 win vs. Lennox. Mitchell is 6-3 on the season as they head to Sioux Falls today to take on SF Jefferson at Noon, followed by SF Lincoln at 4 pm.
— Mitchell Kernels softball (4-3 on the season) hosts O’Gorman on Tuesday at 6 pm. Mitchell won at SF Roosevelt on Thursday night 11-1.
— Mitchell Kernels girls golf will take part in the Sioux Falls Washington quadrangular on Thursday at Bakker Crossing, along with Yankton and Harrisburg at 1 pm. Mitchell opened its season last week on Thursday with a win at the Harrisburg Invitational.
DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Dakota Wesleyan baseball lost at Valley City State on Monday 7-2. It’s the ninth straight loss for the Tigers. DWU will be at Concordia on Thursday for a doubleheader.
— Dakota Wesleyan softball hosts Morningside on Saturday for a doubleheader at 1 pm, before getting ready for the GPAC Tournament starting on Wednesday, April 30.
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State softball lost two games at Iowa State on Monday, 5-3 and 7-6. The Jacks fall to 24-22 on the season. SDSU hosts Omaha for three games starting on Saturday at 1 pm. The Jacks are currently 1.5 games behind Omaha for first place in the Summit League.
— South Dakota State baseball hosts Northwestern on Tuesday in Brookings at 3 pm.
SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD softball starts a three-game series at North Dakota State with a doubleheader on Saturday at Noon.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL – MONDAY
Parkston/Ethan/Tripp 5, Freeman/Canistota/Marion 1 – Carter Sommer went all seven innings, allowing just two hits with 12 strikeouts. Kash Neugebauer had a three-run double in the third inning.
Hanson/Bridgewater-Emery 6, Sioux Falls Christian 5 – Radek Jarding with a two-run single in the fifth inning.
Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake 4, Gregory County 1 – Keaton Christensen with the complete game with 11 strikeouts.
Scotland/Menno 3, Wagner 0 – Bryce Sattler threw a 70-pitch complete game with five strikeouts.

— Kawhi Leonard scored 39 points on 15-of-19 shooting as the Los Angeles Clippers evened their first-round playoff series against the Nuggets with a 105-102 win in Denver. Christian Braun was long on a 3-pointer with 6 seconds left, and Nikola Jokic, who recorded his 19th playoff triple-double, grabbed the rebound but also missed a 3, with 1 second remaining. Joker recorded his 19th career playoff triple-double with 26 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists but committed seven of Denver’s 20 turnovers.
— Cade Cunningham had 33 points and 12 rebounds, while Dennis Schroder made the tiebreaking 3-pointer with 55 seconds left as the Detroit Pistons snapped their NBA-record, 15-game postseason losing streak by beating the New York Knicks 100-94 on Monday night in Game 2 of their playoff series. The Pistons earned their first playoff victory since Game 4 of the 2008 Eastern Conference finals against Boston.

— Duke star Cooper Flagg is headed to the NBA as the favorite to be the No. 1 overall draft pick. The team announced Flagg’s move in a social media post Monday following a lone college season that saw the 18-year-old become only the fourth freshman named as The Associated Press national player of the year while leading the Blue Devils to the Final Four.
— The NCAA passed rules Monday that will allow colleges to pay their athletes per terms of a multibillion-dollar lawsuit settlement expected to go into effect this summer. The nine proposals passed by the NCAA board were largely expected but still mark a defining day in the history of college sports. An athlete’s ability to be paid directly by his or her university is on track to be enshrined in a rulebook that has forbidden that kind of relationship for decades.

— A young woman who says she was raped and threatened by retired NFL player Shannon Sharpe during a “rocky consensual relationship” has filed a civil lawsuit against him seeking $50 million in damages. Attorneys filed the lawsuit Sunday in Clark County, Nevada, for a woman listed in court documents as Jane Doe. The lawsuit also accuses Sharpe of using physical force on her and inflicting emotional distress. The woman first met Sharpe at a gym in Los Angeles in 2023 when she was 20 and a nearly two-year relationship followed, according to court documents. The 56-year-old Sharpe is accused of raping the woman in October 2024 and again in January. Sharpe on Monday posted a statement from his lawyer on social media saying the relationship was consensual and calling the lawsuit a “blatant and cynical attempt to shake down” Sharpe for millions of dollars.

— Luis Arraez was placed on the seven-day concussion injured list by the San Diego Padres on Monday. The three-time batting champion got hurt Sunday night in Houston when he collided with Astros second baseman Mauricio Dubón at first base. Arraez was put on a backboard and carted out of the stadium. He was taken to a hospital but returned to the ballpark. Padres manager Mike Shildt said Arraez was sore on Monday, but tests showed no structural damage.
— Atlanta Braves ace Spencer Strider strained his right hamstring on Monday while playing catch and was placed on the 15-day injured list. Atlanta made the move retroactive to Friday, two days after Strider returned from elbow surgery and made his first big league appearance since April 5 of last year. The 26-year-old right-hander was schedule to make his home debut tonight against St. Louis.
— Miami’s Max Meyer struck out a career-high 14 in six scoreless innings and pinch-hitter Kyle Stowers had a three-run homer in the seventh as the Marlins beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-3.
— Hunter Brown struck out a season-high nine in seven shutout innings as the Houston Astros beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-0 . Brown allowed just two hits while extending his scoreless streak to 24 consecutive innings.
— Sean Murphy hit a three-run homer during Atlanta’s five-run eighth inning as the Braves beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-6 for their fourth consecutive victory. St. Louis lost its fifth consecutive game. It dropped to 1-10 on the road.
— José Ramírez hit a three-run homer and Kyle Manzardo went deep on the next pitch in the third inning, helping the Cleveland Guardians beat the New York Yankees 6-4. Aaron Judge extended his on-base streak to 19 games, going 1 of 4 with a walk.
— Gleyber Torres and Zach McKinstry each had three hits as the Detroit Tigers beat the San Diego Padres 6-4. Detroit has won seven straight series openers and improved to 9-2 at home.
— The Giants Wilmer Flores hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the sixth, while Jung Hoo Lee added an RBI triple the next inning as San Francisco beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2.
— Francisco Lindor hit two home runs, including a leadoff shot for the second consecutive day, as the New York Mets held off the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4. Jesse Winker also went deep as the first-place Mets won their fifth straight game and improved to 10-1 at home. After the Phillies scored four times in the ninth inning, Edwin Díaz struck out Trea Turner and Bryce Harper to earn his sixth save.
— Walker Buehler pitched seven innings for Boston, while rookie Kristian Campbell’s base-loaded grounder rolled into right field for a two-run single as the Red Sox beat the Chicago White Sox 4-2 in Boston’s annual Patriots’ Day game. Buehler struck out nine and gave up a run in the first before putting up six scoreless with two hits.
