MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell Kernels basketball takes on Aberdeen Central on Tuesday at 7 pm. The girls travel to Aberdeen, while the Kernels boys will be at home. Coverage starts at 6:45 pm on Tuesday on KORN News Radio with tip-off for the boys game at 7 pm.

— Mitchell Marlins hockey was swept in a pair of games over the weekend with the girls losing 3-0 to Sioux Falls on Saturday and 5-1 to Brookings on Sunday. The boys lost to Yankton 8-1 game on Friday, followed by a 6-0 to Sioux Falls East on Saturday. The boys travel to Fort Pierre on Friday, while the girls return home February 21st and 22nd to host Sioux Center, Iowa, and Brookings.

— Mitchell Kernels gymnastics hosts the Class A and AA state gymnastics meet on Friday at Mitchell High School.

— Mitchell Kernels boys wrestling will compete at the Region 3A qualifying tournament on Saturday, February 21 at Mitchell high school.

DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Dakota Wesleyan softball, 4-0 on the season, travels to Aberdeen to face Northern State for a doubleheader on Thursday at 1 pm.

— Dakota Wesleyan baseball, 2-2 on the season, travel to Joplin, Missouri, this weekend as they take on Clark (Iowa) on Saturday at Noon.

— No. 9 Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball will be at Waldorf on Wednesday at 5 pm.

— Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball is at Waldorf on Wednesday at 6:45 pm.

— Dakota Wesleyan men’s wrestling gets ready for the GPAC Championships on Friday, Feb. 20 and Saturday, Feb. 21 in Orange City, Iowa.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State women’s basketball host North Dakota on Thursday at 7 pm.

— South Dakota State men’s basketball is at Denver on Thursday at 8 pm CST

— South Dakota State softball will be at Baylor on Tuesday for a single game at 5 pm.

— South Dakota State wrestling hosts the Jackrabbit Open in Brookings on Sunday at 11 am.

SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD men’s basketball hosts North Dakota on Wednesday at 7 pm.

— USD women’s basketball hosts Kansas City on Thursday at 7 pm.

— USD softball travels to Phoenix for five games starting on Friday against Northern Colorado and Sacramento State.

COLLEGE
— North Dakota State University will announce today that they will move its football program to the Mountain West Conference, competing at the FBS level beginning this fall. NDSU will join the league as a football-only affiliate, while remaining in the Summit League for most other sports. More details on scheduling is expected in the coming months.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL
— Arizona remained firmly atop The Associated Press Top 25 men’s college basketball poll for a ninth consecutive week. The Wildcats claimed all 59 first-place votes to be the unanimous choice for a fourth straight week. Michigan remained No. 2. Houston was next at No. 3 after jumping five spots. Duke and Iowa State rounded out the top 5, followed by UConn, No. 7 Nebraska, Illinois, Kansas and No. 10 Michigan State. Kentucky entered the poll at No. 25 for the first time since early December.

— Duke jumped up to No. 11 in The Associated Press women’s basketball Top 25 poll. The Blue Devils are riding a 15-game winning streak. Duke took over sole possession of first-place in the ACC last week with a one-point victory over then-No. 6 Louisville. UConn remained the unanimous No. 1 in the poll, followed by UCLA, South Carolina, Texas and Vanderbilt.

NFL
— Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has had the final two of nearly 30 civil lawsuits against him dismissed. The lawsuits involved accusations of sexual misconduct from 27 women, mostly during massage appointments. The dismissals come just before the lawsuits were set to go to trial. Watson, who played for the Houston Texans at the time of the accusations, has denied any wrongdoing. Two Texas grand juries declined to indict him. Most lawsuits were settled in 2022. Watson was suspended for 11 games in 2022 and fined $5 million for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

— The attorney for Atlanta Falcons rookie LB James Pearce Jr. says Pearce “maintains his innocence” as he faces five felony charges following his arrest near Miami on Saturday night. Pearce’s charges include fleeing police after what police said was a domestic dispute with WNBA player Rickea Jackson. Pearce was arrested after crashing his car. His charges include two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated stalking.

MLB
— Spring training starts today as pitchers and catchers return to the field just 102 days after the World Series. Players are gearing up for the Automated Ball-Strike system, which allows teams to challenge pitch calls with “robot umps.” The system was tested in spring training last year, and teams won just over half of the challenges. The World Baseball Classic is also returning in March. Meanwhile, MLB sees a significant managerial shake-up with eight new managers. A labor confrontation looms as the current collective bargaining agreement nears expiration. A management lockout is anticipated at the end of the upcoming season.

NBA
— The Los Angeles Clippers continue to await the results of the NBA’s investigation of a business relationship between Kawhi Leonard and a California company he had an endorsement deal with. Last September, a report alleged the team violated the NBA’s salary cap rules involving a $28 million endorsement contract between Leonard and the now-bankrupt California-based company. Leonard has denied any wrongdoing, saying he didn’t receive all of the money he was owed from the company. The Clippers have strongly denied that any rules were broken and said it welcomed the league’s investigation, which is being run by an outside firm.

NBA
— Steph Curry will sit out the All-Star Game in Los Angeles this weekend because of his troublesome right knee that sidelined the Golden State Warriors star for a fourth straight game. Coach Steve Kerr announced before the game that Curry also wouldn’t play Wednesday at home against San Antonio and then would sit out the All-Star Game on Sunday in hopes of a return for the Warriors after the break.

— Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid and Atlanta Hawks forward Mouhamed Gueye were ejected Monday night after an fight early in the fourth quarter of Minnesota’s 138-116 win. Anthony Edwards scored 21 of his 30 points in the first half for Minnesota. Julius Randle added 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists for a triple-double.

— Cade Cunningham had 33 points and nine rebounds as the Detroit Pistons hung on to beat Charlotte 110-104, snapping the Hornets’ nine-game winning streak in a wild game that included a fight and four player ejections.

— Donovan Mitchell scored 32 points, including two free throws with 0.9 seconds left after as the Cleveland Cavaliers rallied to beat the Denver Nuggets 119-117. Nikola Jokic had 22 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists, but missed a game winning 3-point shot at the buzzer.

— Jalen Williams scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half of his return from a 10-game injury absence as Oklahoma City defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 119-110. Reigning league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and current NBA scoring leader Luka Doncic both sat out due to injuries,

— Toumani Camara scored a career-high 30 points and shot 8 of 10 from 3-point range as the Portland Trail Blazers cruised to a 135-118 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.

— Trey Murphy III made five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points as the New Orleans Pelicans sent the Sacramento Kings to their 13th straight loss, 120-94. The Kings have their most consecutive losses since the franchise moved from Kansas City to Sacramento 40 years ago.

— Gui Santos made a go-ahead layup with 19 seconds left as the Golden State Warriors rallied late to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 114-113.

— Anthony Black scored 26 points and Desmond Bane added 25 as the Orlando Magic beat Milwaukee 118-99.

— Nic Claxton scored 28 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the Brooklyn Nets to a 123-113 win over the Chicago Bulls.

— Brice Sensabaugh made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 47 seconds remaining to lift the Utah Jazz to a 115-111 victory over the Miami Heat.
