MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell Kernels basketball will face Huron on Tuesday at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls. The girls game is at 6 pm followed by the boys at 7:30 pm. The Mitchell girls have won six games in a row to move to 7-3 on the season. They are currently seventh in seed points. Meanwhile, the Mitchell boys are 5-4 on the season and sits eighth in seed points, just behind No. 7 Huron. Coverage starts with the KORNer Booth Pregame Show at 5 pm.

— Mitchell Marlins boys hockey defeated Aberdeen on Sunday 4-3 for their fourth straight victory. Everett Morrison finished with three goals, while Drake Grenier added three assists. Mitchell, 5-7-1 on the season, host Sioux Falls West on Saturday and Watertown on Sunday.

— Mitchell Marlins girls hockey lost to Rushmore on Sunday 4-3 to fall to 5-10 on the season. Mitchell hosts Oahe on Friday and Aberdeen on Saturday.

— Mitchell Kernels wrestling travels to Brandon on Tuesday for a triangular vs. Watertown and Brandon Valley at 5 pm.

— Mitchell Kernels gymnastics are back in action on Saturday at the ESD Conference meet in Aberdeen.

DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— No. 9 Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball hosts Briar Cliff at the Corn Palace on Wednesday at 6 pm. The Tigers sit alone in second place in the GPAC with a 13-2 conference record, just a half game behind Dordt.

— Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball hosts Briar Cliff on Wednesday at 7:45 pm at the Corn Palace. The Tigers are tied for sixth in the GPAC with a 6-7 conference record.

— Dakota Wesleyan baseball was picked to finish eight in the GPAC preseason poll released on Monday. The Tigers received 34 points after finishing 13-37 last year. Concordia was selected preseason No. 1, followed by Morningside. DWU will open its 49-game season on the road for a tournament in Joplin, Missouri, against Clark (IA) & College of the Ozarks on February 14th.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State women’s basketball host Omaha on Wednesday at 7 pm. SDSU picked up a 76-63 road win at Kansas City on Saturday to improve to 6-1 in Summit League play.

— South Dakota State men’s basketball will be at Omaha on Wednesday at 7 pm. The Jackrabbits are coming off a 74-69 road loss at St. Thomas on Thursday to fall to 3-3 in the Summit League.

— No. 15 South Dakota State wrestling returns home on Friday to take on Air Force at 7 pm.

SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD women’s basketball hosts St. Thomas on Wednesday at 7 pm. The Coyotes are coming off a 79-56 loss at North Dakota State on Saturday.

— USD men’s basketball host Oral Roberts on Thursday at 7 pm. The Coyotes lost to St. Thomas 90-78 on Saturday.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS
— The Washington Commanders are finalizing a deal to hire Vikings assistant Daronte Jones as their new defensive coordinator. Jones replaces Joe Whitt, who was fired after Washington’s defense ranked near the bottom of the league last season. Jones comes from Minnesota, where he coached defensive backs and served as pass game coordinator under Brian Flores.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL
— Arizona remains the unanimous No. 1 in the AP Top 25 men’s college basketball poll. Nebraska climbed to a school-best fifth place. UConn stayed at No. 2 and Michigan stayed at No. 3. Duke held steady at No. 4, while Gonzaga moved up two spots to sixth. Michigan, Iowa State, Illinois and Houston round out the top 10. Purdue dropped eight spots to No. 12 after back-to-back losses last week. North Carolina made the biggest climb, moving up six spots to No. 15.

— The Southeastern Conference has set a record with 10 teams in The Associated Press women’s Top 25 basketball poll. Georgia enters at No. 23 after defeating then-No. 11 Kentucky. This gives the SEC the most teams ever in a single week in the poll’s 50-year history. UConn remains the unanimous No. 1 choice and is the only undefeated team in women’s college basketball. UCLA moves up to No. 2 after South Carolina’s overtime loss to Oklahoma.

NFL
— Shedeur Sanders has been selected as a replacement QB on the AFC’s roster for next week’s Pro Bowl Games. Sanders played in eight games, and started the Browns’ final seven games, going 3-4. He had a 56% completion rate and a 68 passer rating along with 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Sanders was not selected as one of the four alternate selections at quarterback when the rosters were first announced.

MLB
— Free agent outfielder Harrison Bader and the San Francisco Giants have agreed to a $20.5 million, two-year contract. The 31-year-old Bader hit .277 with 17 home runs and 54 RBIs in 146 combined games with Minnesota and Philadelphia last season, setting career highs in all those categories.

NBA
— Rudy Gobert had 15 points and 17 rebounds as the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Golden State Warriors 108-83. The Warriors were playing without starters Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, while Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards was a late scratch to rest an recurring right foot injury. Julius Randle led Minnesota with 18 points.

— Luka Doncic had 46 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Chicago Bulls129-118. LeBron James scored 20 of his 24 points in the first half as Los Angeles improved to 3-1 on an eight-game trip. Chicago went 18 for 49 from 3-point range. It has made at least 17 3s in its last five games.

— Brandon Miller scored 30 points as the Charlotte Hornets took a 50-point lead for the second time this month on the way to rolling past the Philadelphia 76ers 130-93. Charlotte became the first team since Phoenix in February 2009 to lead by 50 or more points in two separate games within the same calendar month. The Hornets led Utah by 57 on their way to a 150-95 win on Jan. 10.

— Alperen Sengun and Kevin Durant each scored 33 points as the Houston Rockets broke open a close game in the fourth quarter and beat the Memphis Grizzlies 108-99. The Rockets trailed by a point at the start of the fourth before going on a 21-9 run. Sengun had an impressing shooting night for the Rockets, going 7 for 7 from the field in the first half and 15 for 17 overall. He also had nine rebounds and six assists.

— Donovan Mitchell scored 45 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Orlando Magic 114-98. Mitchell was 15 of 25 from the field, including five 3-pointers, in 35 minutes.

— Payton Pritchard scored 23 points, hitting buzzer-beaters to end each of the first two quarters to lead the Boston Celtics to a 102-94 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

— Led by CJ McCollum’s 23 points, the Atlanta Hawks used a 17-0 run in the second half to take the lead and beat the Indiana Pacers 132-116. Tipoff had been scheduled for Monday night but was moved to early afternoon because of the possibility of icy roads.
