— Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball host Northwestern on Wednesday at 7:45 pm.
— Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball host Northwestern on Wednesday at 6 pm.
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State men’s basketball defeated Mt. Marty on Monday night 89-41. Oscar Cluff had 14 points and nine rebounds to lead SDSU in just 18 minutes. The Jacks host Southern Mississippi on Wednesday at 7 pm.
— South Dakota State safety Matthew Durrance was selected Monday as the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Durrance intercepted two passes and had four solo tackles in SDSU’s 41-10 home win over Southern Illinois on Saturday. The third-ranked Jackrabbits close out the regular season by traveling to Missouri State. Kickoff is set for 2 pm on Saturday. The pregame show starts at Noon on KORN.
— South Dakota State volleyball hits the road to take on USD Tuesday night in the final match of the Summit League regular season. The Jackrabbits have already clinched at least a share of the Summit League regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament, however one more win would secure sole possession of the title. SDSU has not won a conference title, either regular season or postseason, since 2007. SDSU is 25-1 on the season and 14-1 in the Summit League. USD is 18-8 overall and 10-5 in the conference.
— South Dakota State women’s basketball heads to Hawaii to face Georgia Tech on Saturday at 7 pm, followed by Oregon on Tuesday, November 26 at 6 pm.
— South Dakota State football ends the regular season at Missouri State on Saturday at 2 pm. The Jackrabbit pregame show starts at Noon.
SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD women’s basketball won its first game of the season on Monday with a 74-50 win over Bellevue. Carley Duffney had a game-high 23 points, while Grace Larkins had 17 points, 13 rebounds and five assists. The Coyotes host North Carolina Central on Thursday at 7 pm.
— USD sophomore running back Charles Pierre Jr. has been named Co-Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week. For the second-straight week, Pierre Jr. set a new career-high with 173 rushing yards on 15 carries. He was also the Coyotes’ top receiver, picking up a career-high 75 receiving yards on four receptions. Pierre Jr. surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in rushing on the season becoming the first Coyote in the Division I era to do so.
— USD football hosts No. 1 North Dakota State on Saturday at 1 pm at the DakotaDome.
— USD volleyball ends the regular season on Tuesday when they host SDSU at 7 pm.
— USD men’s basketball will be at Western Michigan on Wednesday at 6 pm.
NFL
— Joe Mixon ran for three touchdowns and Derek Barnett returned a fumble 28 yards for a score as the Houston Texans beat the Dallas Cowboys 34-10. The Cowboys are now 0-5 at home this season and 3-7 overall.
— The Dallas Cowboys had planned to open the AT&T Stadium roof for Monday night’s game against Houston, but the plan was scrapped because a piece of metal fell to the field as the roof was opening more than two hours before kickoff. The Cowboys attributed high winds during the day Monday to contributing to the piece of metal falling.
— The New York Giants have benched Daniel Jones and named Tommy DeVito as their new starting quarterback. Giants coach Brian Daboll announced Monday that the struggling Jones will be New York’s third-string quarterback going forward, behind DeVito and Drew Lock, who will remain in the backup role. Jones’ benching starts the process of the last-place Giants moving on from the quarterback they signed to a four-year, $160 million deal less than two years ago. Jones has thrown eight touchdowns and seven interceptions in 10 starts this season.
MLB
— The Pirates Pall Skenes and Yankees pitcher Luis Gill were named the National League and American League Rookies of the Year on Monday. The 22-year-old Skenes went 11-3 with a 1.96 ERA in 23 starts across 133 innings. His 1.96 ERA was the lowest for any rookie with at least 20 starts dating back to 1920, and the lowest in baseball in 2024 among pitchers with at least 130 innings pitched. Gil went 15-7 with a 3.50 ERA in 29 starts for New York. He led all AL rookies in wins, innings pitched (151⅔) and strikeouts (171).
— Outfielder Ichiro Suzuki and pitcher CC Sabathia are among 14 new candidates on Baseball’s Hall of Fame ballot released Monday, joining 14 holdovers led by reliever Billy Wagner. Wagner received 284 votes and 73.8% in the 2024 balloting, five votes shy of the 75% needed. Adrian Beltré, Joe Mauer and Todd Helton were elected to the Hall of Famer last year.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
— Kansas strengthened its grip on No. 1 in the AP Top 25 men’s college basketball poll picking up five first-place votes and receiving 49 of 61 total first place votes. No. 2 UConn No. 3 Gonzaga, No. 4 Auburn and No. 5 Iowa State rounds out the top five. Kentucky moved up 10 spots to No. 9 after beating Duke last Tuesday. Duke fell six spots to No. 12. Alabama also dropped six spots to No. 8 after losing at Purdue on Friday. Arizona dropped eight spots to No. 17 after losing last week to Wisconsin.
NHL
— NHL referee Mitch Dunning is fully communicative and can move all his extremities following a violent collision with Colorado defenseman Josh Manson in Monday night’s game at Philadelphia. Dunning was taken to a hospital for precautionary reasons and that all neurological signs are normal. Manson skated alone on the ice when he slammed into Dunning early in the first period. Dunning went down in a heap and lay prone on the ice for several minutes. Dunning appeared to be moving his feet and moved his right hand when Manson went to talk to him.
BOXING
— Jake Paul’s unanimous victory over Mike Tyson on Friday night drew record betting. BetMGM says the fight was its most-bet boxing or mixed-martial arts fight. The sportsbook took three times the number of bets and four times the money of any combat sport in BetMGM’s history. A Caesars Entertainment spokesperson compared the amount of betting to that on an NFL game.
NBA
— The Los Angeles Lakers will honor former head coach Pat Riley with a statue outside their downtown arena. The Lakers announced Monday that they have commissioned a statue to stand in Star Plaza immortalizing the coach who won four championships with the Lakers of the 1980s. Riley also won championship rings with the Lakers as a player and an assistant coach. The 79-year-old Riley has been part of the Miami Heat as a coach and executive for the past three decades.
— Former NBA stars Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady are part of a group being considered by the NFL to purchase a non-controlling minority stake in the Buffalo Bills. A committee will also consider Ares Management’s bid to buy 10% of the Miami Dolphins. The person says Carter, McGrady and MLS player Jozy Altidore have joined a consortium seeking to buy a 10.6% share of the Bills.
— Jalen Brunson had 26 points and 11 assists as the New York Knicks rolled to a 134-106 win over Washington that extended the Wizards’ losing streak to nine games. Karl-Anthony Towns added 24 points and 12 rebounds in just 25 minutes. The Knicks scored 40 points in the first quarter and went 20 for 40 from 3-point range.
— Norman Powell scored 23 points as the Los Angeles Clippers held off the Golden State Warriors 102-99 to win their fifth in a row at home. Steph Curry led the Warriors with 26 points.
— Damian Lillard hit a driving layup with 3.9 seconds left to give the Milwaukee Bucks a 101-100 victory over Houston that snapped the Rockets’ five-game winning streak. Lillard scored 18 points after missing the previous three games while in the concussion protocol.
— RJ Barrett scored a season-high 39 points, while Jakob Poeltl had 30 points and 15 rebounds for his third straight double-double as the Toronto Raptors snapped a seven-game losing streak by beating the Indiana Pacers 130-119.
— Jimmy Butler scored a season-high 30 points in his return from a sprained ankle as the Miami Heat erased an early 19-point deficit to beat the Philadelphia 76ers 106-89.
— Zach LaVine scored 16 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter as the Chicago Bulls pulled away for a 122-112 win against the Detroit Pistons.
— Franz Wagner scored 32 points as the Orlando Magic beat the Phoenix Suns 109-99. The Suns had three starters out due to injury, including Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal and Jusuf Nurkic. It was Durant’s sixth straight game out of the lineup. Phoenix is 1-5 over that stretch, including losing four straight.
— De’Andre Hunter scored 24 points and Dyson Daniels had four blocks, including one in the final seconds, as the Atlanta Hawks beat the Sacramento Kings 109-108.
