DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— The No. 16 Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball heads on the road to No. 9 Briar Cliff on Tuesday at 6 pm. The Tigers are 4-2 overall on the season and 2-1 in the GPAC.
— Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball hits the road on Tuesday for a matchup at Briar Cliff at 7:45 pm. The Tigers are 5-3 on the season and 2-1 in the GPAC.
— Dakota Wesleyan volleyball will face Concordia (Neb.) on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 pm, followed by The Master’s University on Thursday in pool play.
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State volleyball swept North Dakota State on Tuesday 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-20) to advance to the Summit League Tournament championship. Sylvie Zgonc finished with a game-high 11 kills, while setter Rylee Martin had 29 assists. Madison Burr added eight blocks for the Jackrabbits as they out blocked the Bison 14-2 and hit .305 for the match. SDSU takes on St. Thomas tonight at 6 pm looking to win the Summit League Tournament for just the second time in school history and first since 2007.
— No. 7 South Dakota State wrestling will be at No. 9 Minnesota on Tuesday at 7 pm. The Jackrabbits opened up their dual season with a 46-0 shutout over Augustana on Friday night.
— South Dakota State men’s basketball heads to Mexico for the Cancun Challenge against Utah Valley on Tuesday at 5 pm. The Jacks began the Cancun Challenge this past Friday with a campus-site game as part of the event, rolling to a 105-58 win over Georgia State.
— South Dakota State women’s basketball, 5-0 on the season, will spend the week at the Cancun Challenge in Mexico when they face No. 12 North Carolina on Thursday at 10 am, followed by Columbia on Friday at 12:30 pm and Kansas State next Saturday at 10 am. The Jackrabbits are the second team outside of the top 25 AP poll this week, ranked 27th in the country.
— South Dakota State football will host New Hampshire in the first round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday at noon at Dykhouse Stadium, marking the Jackrabbits’ 14th straight postseason appearance. Both teams enter at 8-4, with SDSU holding the No. 14 seed as an at-large selection from the Missouri Valley Football Conference. New Hampshire also earned an at-large bid from the CAA. The winner advances to face No. 3 seed Montana on Dec. 6.
SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD volleyball saw its season come to an end of Tuesday with a 3-2 loss (25-22, 22-25, 16-25, 25-19, 15-9) to St. Thomas in the semifinals of the Summit League Tournament. USD Freshman Ava Ball had a game high 20 kills with a .296 hitting percentage, while senior Kamryn Farris had a match high 32 digs, her first match this season with 30 digs. Setter Avery Van Hook matched her career high of 58 assists. USD ends the season with a 20-9 record.
— USD women’s basketball hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday at 7 pm. The Coyotes are 6-0 for the first time since the 2002-03 season, although two of those wins have come vs. NAIA teams.
— USD men’s basketball takes on Air Force on Saturday at 3 pm in Rapid City.
— USD football earned the No. 11 seed in the FCS playoffs and will host Drake in a first-round game on Saturday at noon in the DakotaDome. The Coyotes, 8-4 and second in the MVFC, secured their fifth playoff berth and third straight appearance, and will host a postseason game for the fourth time.

— Christian McCaffrey had a big night in his first game against Carolina since the Panthers traded him to San Francisco three years ago. McCaffrey gained 142 yards from scrimmage and scored a touchdown to help the 49ers beat the Panthers 20-9 on Monday night. He helped the Niners overcome three interceptions in the first half by Brock Purdy. San Francisco is 8-4 heading on the season as the Panthers fell to 6-6 and missed a chance to move into sole possession of first place in the NFC South.
— The Minnesota Vikings have placed quarterback J.J. McCarthy in the concussion protocol, putting his availability for the upcoming game at Seattle in question. McCarthy first reported symptoms during the team’s travel home from a 23-6 loss at Green Bay. O’Connell did not rule McCarthy out for Sunday but said rookie backup Max Brosmer would step in with the first-string offense in practice this week until or unless McCarthy is cleared. The Vikings are 4-7 on the season and lost five of their past six games.
— The MRI for Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield revealed a low-grade joint sprain in his left shoulder but no additional damage. Mayfield’s status for Sunday’s game against Arizona remains uncertain, but there are no long-term injury concerns. Mayfield was injured in the Buccaneers’ 34-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night.

— Shohei Ohtani plans to play for Japan in next year’s World Baseball Classic. The Los Angeles Dodgers star made the announcement on social media Monday night. Ohtani helped Japan win the 2023 WBC, striking out then Angels teammate Mike Trout for the final out of the championship game against the United States. He was named MVP of the tournament. He did not specify whether he plans to pitch for Japan in the WBC, which begins on March 5.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
— Purdue remained at No. 1 in The Associated Press men’s college basketball top 25 poll. The Boilermakers earned 46 of 61 first-place votes. Arizona jumped to No. 2 after another impressive win against a ranked opponent. The Wildcats won at then-No. 3 UConn. They have already beaten ranked Florida and UCLA. Houston was third, followed by Duke and UConn.

— Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups has pleaded not guilty to charges he profited from rigged poker games involving several Mafia figures. Billups was arraigned on Monday in a federal court in New York City. Billups was arguably the most prominent name among more than 30 charged in last month’s sprawling federal takedown of illegal gambling operations linked to professional sports.
— The Detroit Pistons tied a team record with their 13th straight victory, beating the Indiana Pacers 122-117 on Monday night. They matched streaks set by their 1990 and 2004 championship teams, improving their record to 15-2. Just two years ago, the Pistons set an NBA record for consecutive losses in a season with 28.
— DeMar DeRozan scored 33 points as the Sacramento Kings took advantage of Minnesota’s second straight stunning collapse, rallying late in regulation and defeating the Timberwolves 117-112 in overtime. On Friday night in Phoenix, the Timberwolves blew an eight-point lead with less than a minute left in a 114-113 loss. Against the Kings, they were up 10 with three minutes left. Anthony Edwards had 43 points for Minnesota.
— Jamal Murray had 29 points and eight assists as the Denver Nuggets held off a late push by Memphis, defeating the Grizzlies 125-115. Nikola Jokic recorded his 10th triple-double of the season with 17 points, 16 assists and 10 rebounds for Denver.
— Steph Curry made six 3-pointers and scored 31 points as the Golden State Warriors beat the Utah Jazz 134-117. Curry shot 12 for 24 on the way to his fifth 30-point game in the last six.
— Amen Thompson scored 28 points as the Houston Rockets beat the Phoenix Suns 114-92, despite not having Kevin Durant in the lineup for the first time this season. The Rockets won for the 11th time in 13 games.
— Karl-Anthony Towns had 37 points and 12 rebounds as the New York Knicks beat the Nets 113-100 for their 12th consecutive victory over Brooklyn.
— Miami’s Tyler Herro scored 24 points in his season debut after recovering from ankle surgery as the Heat held off the Dallas Mavericks 106-102.
— Brandon Ingram scored 15 of his season-high 37 points in the third quarter as the Toronto Raptors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 110-99 for their eighth straight win. The Raptors have the second best record in the Eastern Conference at 13-5.
— Jerami Grant scored a season-high 35 points as the Portland Trail Blazers rolled to a 115-103 victory while handing the Milwaukee Bucks their fifth consecutive loss. Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo missed a third straight game due to a left adductor strain.
— Zion Williamson tied a season high with 29 points as the New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Chicago Bulls 143-130 to end a nine-game losing streak.
