Just hours before the MLB Trade Deadline of 3 pm CST today, the Twins have sent right-handed pitcher Jose Berrios to the Toronto Blue Jays for infielder Austin Martin and pitcher Simeon Woods-Richardson.

The 27-year-old Berrios has spent his entire six-year Major League career with the Twins after being selected 32nd overall in the 2012 MLB Draft. He has a 3.48 ERA with 126 strikeouts over 121.2 innings this season.

Martin was the 5th overall pick in the 2020 Draft from Vanderbilt and ranked 22nd on the Top 100 MLB Prospect list this past Spring. The SS/OF has spent this season with AA New Hampshire where he is hitting .281/.424/.383 with two HR’s and 16 RBI’s in 55 games.

Richardson was originally drafted by the New York Mets in the 2nd round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of high school. The 20-year-old has already made his way to AA New Hampshire where he has a 5.76 ERA over 45.1 innings with 67 strikeouts.

Berrios was scheduled to start against St. Louis tonight as the Twins begin a nine-game road trip vs. the Cardinals. His salary this year is $6.1 million, with one more year of arbitration this offseason before he becomes a free agent.

This is the second trade the Twins have pulled off in the past week as Minnesota sent DH Nelson Cruz to the Tampa Bay Rays for pitchers Joe Ryan and Drew Strotman on July 22nd. Ryan pitched for Team USA earlier today allowing one run and five hits in six innings with three strikeouts in an 8-1 win over Israel
