Two School Records for Knapp During First Day in California

PACIFIC COAST INVITATIONAL
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Last weekend at the South Dakota Challenge, Lydia Knapp broke the South Dakota track and field record in the hammer throw, and Thursday in Long Beach, Calif., she broke both of her school records.

To get the day started, Knapp took third in the hammer with a personal best and school record distance of 215-4 (65.63m). This breaks her own school record of 214-1 set last week. In her second throwing event of the day, Knapp broke her school record in the discus with a throw of 179-7 (54.75m) to place third. Her old record of 175-2 has stood since 2022.

Knapp’s throws teammate Delaney Smith took 14th in the hammer with a throw of 183-4 (55.88m) and competed in the shot put, recording a throw of 43-6 (13.26m).

On the men’s side, Quincy Warren took 11th in the hammer with a throw of 192-8 (58.73m) and Tristan Gray recorded a distance of 166-2 (50.64m) in the event. Warren also competed in the discus (155-10) and Gray in the shot put (52-5 ½).

Danii Anglin took second in the high jump with a season’s best 5-9 ¾ (1.77m). In the men’s pole vault, Wyatt Stewart took fifth with a clearance of 16-8 (5.08m).

Matayah YellowMule added an 11th place finish in the women’s long jump at 18-10 (5.74m). In the men’s long jump, Bennett Schwenn recorded a distance of 23-1 ¾ (7.05m) for 11th.

On the track, Averi Schmeichel competed in the 100-meter hurdles and took fifth in a time of 13.43 seconds, the best time in the Summit League this season. Mikael Grace and Jaden Damiano recorded strong times in the 110-meter hurdles Thursday as well. Grace ran 14.07 seconds and Damiano 14.11. Damiano’s time is a personal best ranking sixth on the Coyote Top 10 list.

BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL
AZUSA, Calif. – The distance runners took advantage of the strong competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational Thursday afternoon, recording four Coyote Top 10 times on the day.

The first two new names on Coyote Top 10 list came in the women’s 5,000-meters. Abrielle Jirele ran 16:56.31 to enter the top 10 at No. 7 and Geneva Timmerman recorded a time of 17:06.15 to enter at No. 9. Natnael Kifle ran in the men’s 5,000, finishing in 14:42.85.

The Coyotes then had two top times in the women’s 800-meters. In the open section, Sydney Stodden took fifth with a time of 2:10.22, the top time in her heat and moving her to No. 7 on the Coyote Top 10 list. In the invite section, Berkeley Engelland ran 2:10.78, cracking the top 10 at No. 10.

Tommy Hensley ran in the men’s open 800, running 1:51.76 to place 11th.

MT. SAC RELAYS
WALNUT, Calif. – The women’s steeplechase crew got the Mt. SAC Relays starts for the Yotes, recording three finishes under 11 minutes.

Alexus Sindelar took fourth with a time of 10:48.03, moving to fifth on the Coyote Top 10 list. Mariah Fenske took sixth and Jade Ecoffey eighth in the meet. Fenske recorded a time of 10:53.28 and Ecoffy 10:56.66, and are now No. 8 and 9 on the Top 10 list.

The Coyotes will compete at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Beach Invitational Friday.
