VanOverschelde named first Mitchell Head Softball Coach

Kent VanOverschelde has been hired as the first Head Softball Coach for the Mitchell School District.

Coach VanOverschelde served as the head softball coach for sevens years at Sioux Valley-Round Lake-Brewster in Minnesota and as the assistant softball coach at Dakota Wesleyan University for two years.

VanOverschelde is currently the Mitchell head football coach and on the staff of Mitchell baseball.

“Coach VanOverschelde is the ideal person to begin our softball program, says Mitchell Activities Director Cory Aadland.

“He has an extensive background in coaching softball and has a proven track record of running quality athletic programs. He will develop softball players, but more importantly, he will develop our student-athletes to be great people that will be great representatives of our school and the Mitchell community. I am looking forward to starting this new chapter in Mitchell Athletics and cannot think of a better person to do that than Coach VanOverschelde.”

The South Dakota High School Activities Association will hold softball as a sanctioned sport for the first time beginning in the spring of 2023.
