MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell Kernels softball had its three-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday night with a 14-2 loss to SF Washington in five innings. The Warriors scored four runs in the first inning, all with two outs, and added six more runs in the third inning. Mitchell will be at SF Roosevelt on Thursday at 6 pm.

— Mitchell baseball lost at SF Jefferson on Tuesday 1-0 to fall to 5-4 on the season. Mitchell hosts Tea Area in its first home game of the season at Cadwell Park on Thursday at 5 pm. The pregame show on KORN starts at 4:45 pm.

— Mitchell Kernels boys tennis picked up a pair of road wins on Tuesday in Brookings defeating the Bobcats 9-0 and Aberdeen Roncalli 8-1. Mitchell improves to 3-2 in duals this season as they head to Huron on Thursday to take on the Tigers and Aberdeen Central at 9 am.

— Mitchell Kernels track and field won six events on Tuesday at Joe Quintal field in a triangular with Yankton and Brandon Valley. Kellan Odell placed first in the javelin with a throw of 173 feet, 8 inches, and in the long jump (21 feet 2 ¼ inches). Taylor DeJong won the girls shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 2 inches and the discus at 114 feet, 10 inches. Londyn Schroeder won the girls 3,200 meters, finishing in 12 minutes, 13 seconds. Bryer Stach won the boys shot put at 48 feet, 3 inches. The Kernels will then host over a dozen schools for the Corn Palace Relays on Thursday afternoon at 2 pm.

DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Dakota Wesleyan baseball return to GPAC play on Thursday with a doubleheader at Briar Cliff at 1 pm.

— Dakota Wesleyan women’s golf finished in a tie for third place with Morningside on Tuesday at the Doane Invite in Lincoln, Nebraska. Allison Meyerink finished in a three-way for ninth place with a two-round total of +20. DWU wraps up the season at the GPAC Championships in Cairo, Nebraska, on Monday April 28 and Tuesday April 29.

— Dakota Wesleyan softball hosts Doane on Thursday for a 3 pm doubleheader with just six games left in the regular season.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State baseball will be at Minnesota on Wednesday at 6 pm. The Gophers defeated the Jacks on April 8, 4-3.

— South Dakota State softball hosts North Dakota State for three games this weekend starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 2 pm.

— South Dakota State’s Caiden Fredrick was named the Summit League Men’s Co-Field Performer of the Week on Tuesday. Fredrick set a new school record this past weekend in Vermillion with a discus throw of 187 feet to win the event.

SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD softball will be at Omaha for a doubleheader on Friday at Noon.

NBA
— Jimmy Butler had 38 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Steph Curry scored 37 as the Golden State Warriors earned the seventh seed in the Western Conference playoffs by beating the Memphis Grizzlies 121-116 in the Play-In Tournament. Golden State is now headed for a best-of-seven first-round series beginning with Game 1 on Sunday at Houston.

— Cole Anthony came off the Orlando bench with 26 points and six assists to lead the Magic to a 120-95 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night in the first game of the NBA Play-In Tournament. Orlando earns the Eastern Conference’s seventh seed and will play the No. 2 seed Boston Celtics. Atlanta will take on the winner of Chicago and Miami on Friday for the No. 8 seed.

NFL
— The Miami Dolphins are pursuing trade options for All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, general manager Chris Grier confirmed on Tuesday. Ramsey did not ask for a trade, and he didn’t ask for more money, Grier clarified, but after weeks of conversations with Ramsey’s representation, both sides agreed it would be best to potentially move on. Miami acquired Ramsey from the L.A. Rams in 2023 and given a three-year, $72 million contract extension ahead of the 2024 season. That deal made Ramsey the highest-paid cornerback in the league at the time.

— Tyron Smith is set to retire with the Dallas Cowboys after the perennial Pro Bowl left tackle spent his final season with the New York Jets. The 34-year-old intended to sign a ceremonial one-day contract in order to retire with the franchise that drafted him in the first round at No. 9 overall, 14 years ago. Smith’s retirement comes a little more than a month after right guard Zack Martin made the same announcement following an 11-season career with Dallas. Martin and Smith were teammates for 10 years.

NHL
— Politics bowed to Canada’s most popular sport on Tuesday, when the French-language leaders’ debate was rescheduled to minimize a conflict with a Montreal Canadiens hockey game. Two federal party leaders had called for the Wednesday evening debate to be moved, out of concern that the game could siphon off potential viewers. Five party leaders will debate each other twice this week, once in French and once in English, ahead of a national election set for April 28. The televised event will now take place two hours earlier than planned, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET in Montreal.

MLB
— Ryan Jeffers and Harrison Bader had three hits apiece and Brooks Lee homered as the Minnesota Twins defeated the New York Mets 6-3. Bailey Ober gave up three earned runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings to pick up his first victory since Aug. 9, a span of 13 starts. The Twins go for a series win vs. the Mets this afternoon at 12:10 pm.

— Nico Hoerner’s triple leading off the 10th inning drove in automatic runner Dansby Swanson as the Chicago Cubs beat San Diego 2-1, handing the Padres their first loss in 12 home games.

— Alex Bregman went 5 for 5 with two home runs and four RBIs as the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-4. Bregman fell a triple shy of the cycle and had his seventh two-homer game of his career.

— Bryce Harper and J.T. Realmuto homered as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the San Francisco Giants 6-4.

— Jasson Domínguez went 3 for 3 with a three-run double in the Yankees 4-2 win over Kansas City. Max Fried struck out seven in 6 2/3 innings as New York erased a 2-0 deficit with a four-run sixth aided by three straight two-out walks.

— Will Smith hit a three-run homer as the Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 6-2. The Rockies fell to a franchise- and MLB-worst 3-14 overall and 1-10 on the road.

— Quinn Priester and four relievers combined on a one-hitter as the Milwaukee Brewers shutout the Detroit Tigers 5-0.

— Jake Meyers had three hits and drove in a run, while Hunter Brown threw six shutout innings to lead the Houston Astros to a 2-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

— Tyler Soderstrom hit a pair of three-run home runs, his major league-leading seventh and eighth homers of the season, as the Athletics beat the White Sox 12-3.

— The Rangers Tyler Mahle limited the Angels to three singles and walked two batters before four relievers finished off the third shutout win for Texas already this year in a 4-0 win over L.A.

— Corbin Carroll hit a grand slam and drove in five runs as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Miami Marlins 10-4.

— Alan Roden hit his first career home run as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Atlanta Braves 6-3. Kevin Gausman struck out six over six innings for Toronto, allowing two runs and six hits.

— Logan Allen pitched into the sixth inning as Cleveland beat Baltimore 6-3 for their sixth victory in seven games. Allen allowed two hits in 5 2/3 scoreless innings with six strike outs. struck out six. Steven Kwan hit a two-run homer for Cleveland in the fifth.

— The Nationals James Wood led off the game with a home run and Jake Irvin pitched seven scoreless innings to lead Washington to a 3-0 win over Pittsburgh.

— Austin Hays drove in four runs in his season debut as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Seattle Mariners 8-4. Hays missed the start of the season with a left calf strain that occurred on the final day of spring training.
