COLLEGE FOOTBALL
— Big 12 Conference athletic directors met Tuesday with Commissioner Brett Yormark to discuss the court ruling that restored Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s eligibility for the upcoming season. A Texas judge issued a temporary injunction blocking the NCAA from enforcing a gambling-related suspension against Sorsby, who acknowledged betting on sports, including games involving his own team. Yormark said the call with ADs was “thoughtful and productive” as the league weighs broader implications. The NCAA is appealing the ruling. Sorsby would still face a brief suspension before becoming eligible to return later this fall, while conference officials prepare for further review at upcoming meetings.

NHL
— Jordan Staal scored twice, including the game-winner late in the third period, as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Vegas Golden Knights 5-3 to even the Stanley Cup Final at two games apiece. Staal’s second goal came at 6:32 of the third period, putting Carolina ahead for good. The series now shifts back to Carolina for Game 5 on Thursday.

NBA
— The New York Knicks can move within one win of an NBA championship when they host the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals tonight at 7:30 pm on ABC. New York leads the best-of-seven series 2-1 after the Spurs earned a 115-111 victory in Game 3 on Monday at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks won the first two games in San Antonio. The Knicks are seeking their first NBA title since 1973. Meanwhile, the Spurs are trying to become the first team ever to rally from a 2-0 deficit in the Finals while losing the first two games of the series at home.

NFL
— Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals have restructured the quarterback’s contract to create about $10 million in salary cap space. The move spreads part of Burrow’s base salary over the final three years of his deal, which runs through 2029. Burrow signed a five-year, $275 million extension in 2023. Burrow played just eight games last season due to injury as Cincinnati missed the playoffs for a third straight year.

— A court report says five law firms have been barred from handling claims tied to the NFL’s $1 billion concussion settlement after allegations they fraudulently steered former players into Parkinson’s disease diagnoses. The report says 98 former players were involved, with 57 claims already approved totaling more than $95 million before an audit flagged suspicious activity. Another 37 claims are now being denied. Investigators allege the firms bypassed settlement rules requiring approved neurologists by using outside doctors who diagnosed players and prescribed medication that masked symptoms.

TENNIS
— Serena Williams made a winning return to professional tennis, teaming with Victoria Mboko to capture a first-round doubles victory at the Queen’s Club Championships in London. The pair won 7-6, 6-2 in Williams’ first match since the 2022 U.S. Open, after nearly four years away. The 44-year-old Williams said she is taking her comeback “a day at a time” and has not yet decided about playing Wimbledon.

— Tennis great Roger Federer will return to the U.S. Open this summer for a special exhibition event at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The event will also feature Andy Roddick, John McEnroe and Andre Agassi. The exhibition comes just days before Federer is scheduled to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on August 29.

WORLD CUP
— Somali referee Omar Artan will not officiate at the World Cup after being denied entry into the United States, officials confirmed Monday. U.S. Customs and Border Protection said a Somali national traveling to work as a World Cup referee was denied admission after arriving in Miami from Istanbul on Saturday. Customs officials said he was found inadmissible because of unspecified vetting concerns. FIFA said visa and entry decisions are ultimately made by host governments and not the organization.

COLLEGE
— A North Carolina judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by 31 former NC State Wolfpack athletes who alleged sexual abuse and misconduct by former sports medicine director Robert Murphy Jr. The Judge ruled Tuesday that the claims were barred by the statute of limitations. The lawsuit stemmed from earlier complaints dating back to 2013 and included allegations of inappropriate touching and misconduct during treatment and drug testing procedures. Attorneys for the athletes said they will appeal, arguing the dismissal was based on procedural grounds and does not address the underlying allegations.

NFL
— The Kansas City Chiefs have signed veteran cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to a one-year contract worth up to $5 million. Sneed, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs, was drafted by Kansas City in 2020 before being traded to the Tennessee Titans in 2024. The 29-year-old appeared in just seven games last season because of knee and quad injuries. Sneed has 10 career interceptions in six NFL seasons.
