AMATEUR BASEBALL
Dimock/Emery 7, Mitchell Aces 5 – The Raptors scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning. Phil Johnson picked up the win with three innings in relief of Josh Engquist. Mason Herman threw seven innings for Mitchell, allowing just four hits, while Karter Sibson had three hits and a triple. Dimock/Emery is 4-5 on the season with Mitchell falling to 1-9.

Winner/Colome 6, Mt. Vernon 3 – Derek Grasser with 10 strikeouts for Winner/Colom, along with a HR and three walks. Brady Albrecht had a three-run HR for Mt. Vernon in the ninth inning. The Pheasants improve to 8-1 on the season, while Mt. Vernon falls to 4-6.

Parkston Mudcats 4, Corsica 3 – Parkston scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, winning on a Braxton Wilhelm single to score Kaleb Weber. Brady Nolz had a two-run HR for the Mudcats. Brady Bierma went eight innings, striking out 11. The Mudcats are 7-3 on the season and sit in second place in the Sunshine League. Corsica falls to 3-7.

MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell golfers Maddie Childs and Anna Eliason earned top-10 finishes at the Sanford International Series stop in Sioux Falls on Tuesday. Childs took 6th place with a two-day score of 155, marking her second straight top-10 finish this summer. Eliason came in 9th with a score of 160. Watertown’s Gabi Olson won the girls’ event at 2-under-par. The next stop in the series is Wednesday, June 25 in Spearfish.

— Mitchell Gold 16-and-under baseball split a doubleheader on Tuesday at Drake Field vs. Tea, losing game one 8-3 before winning game two 9-3. Nolan Widstrom went six innings for the win in game two, allowing three runs, three hits with six strikeouts. Mitchell Gold (7-5) faces Huron on Wednesday for a 5 pm doubleheader.

— Mitchell Black 14-and-under baseball dropped two games on Tuesday in Sioux Falls, losing to Brookings 9-3 and Sioux Falls Post 15, 12-4 in five innings. Mitchell Black (8-7) will compete in a tournament in Sioux Falls starting on Friday.

— Mitchell White 13-and-under baseball (4-9) is back in action with a noon doubleheader at Brookings on Thursday.

— Mitchell will host a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) football camp on Wednesday, June 25th from 9 am to 3 pm at Joe Quintal Field. Camp is for players entering grades 5-8 this fall and the cost is $20.

Indiana Pacers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder, Thursday at 7:30 pm on ABC – Oklahoma City leads the series 3-2

— Tyrese Haliburton’s status for Game 6 of the NBA Finals is day-to-day, after undergoing an MRI Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury to his lower right leg.

STANLEY CUP FINALS
— The Florida Panthers repeated as Stanley Cup champions by beating the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 in Game 6 on Tuesday night. They are the NHL’s first back-to-back winners since Tampa Bay in 2020 and ’21 and the third team to do it this century. Sam Reinhart scored four of the five goals. The Panthers have won 11 of 12 playoff series over the past three seasons. Sam Bennett won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP, scoring 15 times to lead all playoff scorers. Canada’s Stanley Cup drought reached 32 years.

WNBA
— Caitlin Clark had 20 points, six assists and four 3-pointers as the Indiana Fever beat the Connecticut Sun 88-71 in a game that included three late ejections. With 46 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Connecticut guard Jacy Sheldon had a steal and went in for a layup before being wrapped up by Indiana’s Sophie Cunningham under the basket for a hard foul. Sheldon got up quicky and got into a shoving match with Cunningham, leading to Cunningham, Sheldon and Lindsay Allen all getting ejected. Sheldon was also the center of another official review in the third quarter after she poked Clark in the eye and then Marina Mabrey came in late to shove Clark to the floor.

NFL
— Former Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs has apologized to the family of a woman he killed in a car crash nearly four years ago. Ruggs was on special release Tuesday night to speak at a Hope for Prisoners event in Las Vegas. Ruggs drove his sports car at speeds up to 156 mph in Nov, 2021, slamming into a vehicle that killed driver Tina Tintor. Tintor was 23. Ruggs apologized after he was asked at the event what he would say to Tintor’s family.

NASCAR
— A federal judge is urging NASCAR and two of its teams to settle their increasingly acrimonious legal fight that spilled over into tense arguments during a hearing this week. 23XI Racing, which is owned by Michael Jordan and three-time Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin, is fighting with NASCAR along with Front Row Motorsports. The two say the series is a monopoly, but NASCAR has struck back with a countersuit of its own.

BETTING
— Louisiana soon could raise taxes on sports betting to help finance the athletic departments at many of its public universities. Legislation pending before Gov. Jeff Landry would make Louisiana the first state to raise taxes for college sports since a judge approved a landmark settlement allowing schools to directly pay athletes for use of their name, image and likeness. Earlier this year, Arkansas became the first state to exempt school NIL payments to athletes from state income taxes. Some sports business analysts expect more states to follow with laws aimed at giving an edge to their college athletes.

TENNIS
— Aryna Sabalenka says she has written to Coco Gauff to apologize for the “unprofessional” comments she made following her loss in the final of the French Open. the top-ranked Sabalenka said her remarks after her loss to Gauff at Roland-Garros were a mistake. In her post-match press conference in Paris, Sabalenka had suggested that the result was more due to her own errors than to Gauff’s performance. Sabalenka says “that was just completely unprofessional of me,” adding that she let her emotions get the better of her.

MLB
— Cincinnati’s TJ Friedl hit a two-out, two-run double in the sixth inning as the Reds rallied for their third straight win, 6-5 over the Minnesota Twins. Cincinnati has won eight of its last 11 games to climb within two games of the third NL wild-card spot. Byron Buxton’s solo homer off Andrew Abbott put the Twins ahead 1-0 in the third. David Festa held Cincinnati hitless until the fourth when Will Benson’s two-run double put the Reds ahead 2-1. Game two is tonight at 6:10 pm.

— Kyle Hendricks and three Angels relievers combined on a four-hitter as L.A. beat the slumping Yankees 4-0 to hand them their third straight shutout. New York has lost five in a row and has not scored in their last 29 innings. Aaron Judge went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts. He is 2 for 19 with 12 strikeouts in his last five games.

— The Dodgers Will Smith hit a tiebreaking two-run homer to end a 12-pitch at-bat in the sixth inning as Los Angeles defeated the San Diego Padres 8-6. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts got ejected in the third after Fernando Tatis Jr. and Shohei Ohtani were hit by pitches. Another Padres player, Jose Iglesias, was plunked in the seventh. The Dodgers Andy Pages went 4 for 4, hitting a pair of two-out homers and driving in another run during a five-run sixth inning.

— Salvador Perez homered twice and Bobby Witt Jr. went deep in his hometown team’s ballpark for the first time as the Kansas City Royals ended a six-game losing streak with a 6-1 win over the Texas Rangers. Seth Lugo struck out a season-high nine for his first win since May 1.

— Seiya Suzuki and Pete Crow-Armstrong homered as the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-3. Kyle Tucker had three hits as Chicago improved to 4-1 on a current 10-game homestand.

— Gabriel Arias hit a go-ahead homer in the sixth inning and doubled in the ninth on a night when San Francisco celebrated new slugger Rafael Devers, as Cleveland beat the Giants 3-2. Devers went 2 for 5 with a double and two strikeouts in his Giants debut after being traded from the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.

— The Rockies had a franchise record-tying seven home runs in a 10-6 win over the Washington Nationals. Michael Toglia hit two for the second multi-homer game of his career, while Hunter Goodman had a three-run shot in a six-run seventh inning.

— The Braves Austin Riley hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to deep center field in the 10th inning, giving Atlanta a 5-4 win over the New York Mets. Marcell Ozuna tied the score with a three-run double in the eighth. New York has dropped four in a row for the first time this season.

— Rookie Cam Smith hit two of Houston’s five home runs and finished with four hits as the Astros routed the Athletics 13-3 to end their four-game winning streak.

— Brendan Donovan had four hits and Iván Herrera drove in four runs as the St. Louis Cardinals handed the Chicago White Sox their sixth straight loss, 12-2.

— Toronto’s Bo Bichette and Addison Barger hit back-to-back home runs off Shelby Miller in the ninth inning as the Blue Jays rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4.

— Colton Cowser hit a go-ahead homer as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1. The Orioles have won 12 of 17.
