MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES
— The $1.5 billion sale of the Minnesota Timberwolves from Glen Taylor to an investment group led by e-commerce entrepreneur Marc Lore and former baseball star Alex Rodriguez gained NBA approval on Tuesday, finalizing a process that took more than four years after the deal was reached. The ownership transfer that Taylor tried to stop last year received an unanimous vote from the league’s board of governors that comprises the 30 team owners. The deal, which is expected to close this week nearly 51 months and more than 1,500 days after the initial agreement, includes also includes the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx.

NBA
— Kristaps Porzingis is being traded from the Boston Celtics to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team deal also involving the Brooklyn Nets. The Celtics will receive Georges Niang and a second-round pick, while the Nets receive guard Terance Mann and the Hawks’ first-round draft pick at No. 22. This trade follows Boston’s recent move sending point guard Jrue Holiday to Portland. Porzingis, who helped Boston win the 2024 NBA title, is on an expiring $30 million contract. The Nets now hold five first-round picks in tonight’s NBA draft.

The new deal keeps Irving out of free agency and in Dallas long term. The new deal includes a player option in the 2027-28 season. Irving is expected to miss the first half of next season with a torn ACL.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL
— A decision on whether or not to expand the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will be made in the upcoming weeks, sources told ESPN. If the decision is made to expand, the expansion would begin in the 2025-26 season, and the tournament would expand to no more than 76 teams. Sources have indicated for months that 76 is the more likely expansion option than 72, as the current format for the men’s and women’s tournament is 68 teams.

NFL
— An arbiter has ruled that the NFL did not collude to block fully guaranteed player contracts following Deshaun Watson’s record-setting $230 million deal with the Cleveland Browns. The ruling, made in January but recently revealed, stems from a 2022 grievance filed by the NFL Players Association. While arbiter Christopher Droney dismissed the NFLPA’s case and awarded no damages, he acknowledged that league officials, with Commissioner Roger Goodell’s support, urged team owners in March 2022 to limit guaranteed deals. However, he found no proof that teams formed an agreement, a key requirement for proving collusion under the collective bargaining agreement. Top quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson, Russell Wilson, and Kyler Murray all pursued fully guaranteed deals after Watson’s contract, but none received one.

— Aaron Rodgers is “pretty sure” the 2025 season will be his last in the NFL. The 41-year-old quarterback signed a one-year deal with Pittsburgh earlier this month after two seasons with the New York Jets. In an appearance Tuesday on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers said, “I’m pretty sure this is it. That’s why we just did a one-year deal.” Rodgers agreed to sign with Pittsburgh after regular conversations with coach Mike Tomlin over a few months.
