DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— Dakota Wesleyan softball coach Stephen Oswald Jr. is stepping down after one season following a record-setting year for the program. Oswald led the Tigers to a 35-17 record in 2026, the most wins in school history, and guided the team to a GPAC Tournament appearance. The team also earned nine all-conference selections and continued a two-year stretch of sustained success, with a combined 69-33 record over that span. Despite the strong season, Oswald is departing the program and has not announced his next move, saying he is considering whether to continue coaching or pursue other opportunities. The university has begun a search for its next head coach for the second straight season.

SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD has named Shannon Pivovar as its next head softball coach, officially making her the program’s 11th head coach. Pivovar had been an assistant and later associate head coach at USD for the past three seasons and played a key role in the Coyotes’ historic 2026 campaign, which included the program’s first conference title and first NCAA Tournament appearance and win. Before returning to USD, she spent four seasons as head coach at USF, where she compiled a 109–113 record, and earlier served as an assistant at South Dakota State. She replaces former head coach Robert Wagner, who stepped down last month.

MINNESOTA TWINS

STANLEY CUP FINALS
— The Vegas Golden Knights rallied from an early two-goal deficit to beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-4 in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on Tuesday night in Raleigh. Tomas Hertl scored the game-winning goal with 3:24 remaining in the third period, helping Vegas extend its playoff winning streak to seven games. The Golden Knights erased a 2-0 first-period hole and took home-ice advantage in the best-of-seven series. Nikolaj Ehlers scored twice for Carolina, while Vegas got goals from Hertl, Shea Theodore, Ivan Barbashev, William Karlsson and Brett Howden. Game 2 is Thursday in Raleigh.

NFL
— Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs remains with the team and is participating in organized team activities while Wisconsin prosecutors continue to review a domestic abuse investigation. Jacobs was arrested May 26 on allegations that include strangulation and suffocation. He has denied the accusations through his attorneys and was released from jail while the investigation continues.

— The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to a contract extension with wide receiver Drake London, locking him in on a four-year, $141 million deal that makes him one of the NFL’s highest-paid players at his position. The extension reportedly includes about $100 million guaranteed and could reach $150 million with incentives. London will still play the 2026 season under his fifth-year rookie option before the new deal begins. London, Atlanta’s 2022 first-round pick, has emerged as the team’s top receiving target with 309 catches, nearly 4,000 yards, and 22 touchdowns in his first four seasons.

— The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to a contract extension with outside linebacker Nick Herbig, locking him in for four years on a deal that could be worth up to $100 million. THE 25-year-old Herbig, a 2023 fourth-round pick, has steadily improved each season, increasing his sack totals from 3.5 as a rookie to a 7.5-sack campaign in 2025.

WORLD CUP
— FIFA World Cup venues across North America are temporarily dropping their corporate-sponsored names as the tournament begins next week. Stadiums such as AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and Lumen Field in Seattle are being rebranded with generic city-based names because their sponsors are not official FIFA partners. Under FIFA rules, only tournament sponsors receive exclusive branding rights during the World Cup. As a result, AT&T Stadium becomes Dallas Stadium, Lumen Field becomes Seattle Stadium, and MetLife Stadium in New Jersey will be known as New York New Jersey Stadium. One exception is BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, which keeps its name because the venue is government-owned. In Atlanta, FIFA allowed the Mercedes-Benz logo atop the stadium to remain after determining its removal could damage the retractable roof, though other logos were covered. The World Cup runs through July 19.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL
— Iowa women’s basketball team is set for a nonconference matchup against Vanderbilt on Nov. 15 in Sioux City, Iowa. The neutral-site game at the Tyson Events Center will feature two nationally ranked teams that both reached the NCAA Tournament last year, with Vanderbilt finishing No. 10 after a Sweet 16 run and Iowa finishing No. 16 after a second-round exit.
