A review of the proposed 2027 city budget dominated Tuesday’s Mitchell City Council meeting. City Administrator Stephanie Ellwein walked the council through the numbers.
“We did forecast a conservative budget this year,” said Ellwein. “We’re not really showing any growth in sales tax for 2027. We did bring sales tax up to the levels collected in 2025, but the reason why is so far this year it has been pretty volatile.”
She pointed out the overall proposed revenue is $66.9-million dollars, with the proposed general fund budget at $27.8-million dollars.
The council has scheduled another budget work session on Monday, September 14th at 5:30 pm at city hall.
In other business, the group placed on first-reading an ordinance to allow for run-off elections for Mayor and City Council, approved a property transfer from the city and First United Methodist Church and was informed the roundabout project at the intersection of North Ohlman and West 23rd was nearing completion.
