Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Deputy Katherine Frank remembered

Emotions were heavy amidst a strong show of support at Monday’s funeral of Minnehaha County Deputy Sheriff Katherine Frank.

Her older sister Kristine – also a law officer – expressed the sorrow of losing her sister. “We both chose to go into law enforcement,” said Kristine Frank. “We knew the risks, but I never imagined I’d have to stand here and say goodbye to my little sister, my best friend.”

Her younger brother Thomas also spoke, calling Katherine his hero.

Sheriff Elect Josh Phillips addressed the congregation…with a special focus on the officers he leads. “This one hurts. It hurts our entire agency. We’ve never experienced a loss like this,” said Phillips. “And I know the days ahead won’t be easy, but as you look around, I hope you see how much support we have behind us.”

A large procession from the Premier Center returned to the Boom Funeral Home on east 10th Street, after passing through downtown Sioux Falls.
