A tranquil pattern to start across the Heartland; gradual warming, a more showery trend ahead

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of below-normal temperatures in much of the eastern U.S., while warmer-than-normal weather will prevail in northern New England and most areas from the Pacific Coast to the Mississippi River. 

Meanwhile, below-normal rainfall from the Ohio Valley southward to the central and eastern Gulf Coast States should contrast with wetter-than-normal weather in northern New England and much of the western half of the U.S.
