Mitchell Kernels boys basketball will play eight of its first nine games at home this season as they look to defend their 2022-23 ESD title and make a run at a second consecutive trip to the Class AA state championship game.
The Kernels open on the road at Huron on Friday, December 8 as part of a doubleheader. The Mitchell boys and girls will take part in nine doubleheaders on the season, including a return trip from Huron to the Corn Palace on Tuesday, January 9
Mitchell will host two out of state teams for the annual Hoop City Classic during the holidays, facing Thunder Basin, Wyoming, on Friday, December 29 at 7:30 pm, followed by DeLaSalle, Minnesota, on Saturday, December 30 at 7:30 pm.
The Yankton Bucks come to the Corn Palace on Friday, January 5 in a rematch of the 2022 Class AA boys state title game.
The longest trip of the season will be a weekend out west when the Kernels take on Sturgis on Friday, February 2 and Spearfish on Saturday, February 3.
Mitchell only has three regular season home games after January 9, as they end the regular season at O’Gorman on Friday, February 23.
The AA boys SoDAK 16 is scheduled for Saturday, March 2 and this year’s state tournament will be at the Premier Center in Sioux Falls, starting on Thursday, March 14.
