Cool air will remain entrenched for the remainder of the week in most areas east of the Rockies. During the weekend, however, temperatures will rebound to near- or above-normal levels across the South. Meanwhile, a heat wave will gradually end in the Pacific Coast States, although above-normal temperatures will persist farther inland across the Great Basin and interior Northwest. During the next few days, a pair of disturbances will pivot across the Plains, Midwest, and Northeast.
