Bank leader says crop insurance critical in the next farm bill  

A leader with the American Bankers Association says it’s critical that Congress maintains a strong commodity title in the next Farm Bill.

Ed Elfmann, the senior vice president of agricultural and rural banking policy, says farmers need crop insurance as they continue to face tight margins.

“By having crop insurance we can make sure that at least a percentage is coming back,” he says. “The biggest thing is to not tweak it too much and not go after the premiums and change those because they’re set up to protect farmers.
