Cold blast halts Minn. sugarbeet harvest; soybeans near finish

Abnormally cold weather ended Minnesota’s sugarbeet harvest, but improved harvest conditions for other crops, firming up muddy fields. Crops are coming out of the field wetter than usual requiring more LP gas for drying and causing concerns about shortages.

Corn harvest is 63 percent complete, 11 days behind normal. It’s coming out of the filed averaging 22 percent moisture.

Ninety-one percent of the soybeans are harvested, 9 days behind last year and 15 days behind normal.
