Drought conditions get worse in eastern SD

South Dakota’s state climatologist says timely rains in the last week have improved dry conditions in the west while eastern South Dakota is missing out on rains and getting drier.

Laura Edwards with South Dakota State University Extension tells Brownfield above average temperatures and dry conditions aren’t helping small grains.

“The impacts I’m hearing right now in the central and southeastern part of the state, there’s a lot of oats and barley stunted.
