Drought programs available for SD producers

Drought remains in South Dakota and the conservation program manager with the Farm Service Agency says producers in the eastern part of the state are taking advantage of emergency haying and grazing Conservation Reserve Program acres.

Owen Fagerhaug tells Brownfield even in multi-year droughts…

“We’ve got a good amount of acreage in the eastern part of the state under the continuous and wetland practices and that makes a difference in forage availability for livestock.”

Fagerhaug says the Livestock Forage Program has also been triggered in a few counties in south-central South Dakota.
