The Illinois Farm Bureau is pleased to see several bills working their way through the state legislature dealing with solar construction on farmland.
Farm Bureau’s state legislation director Kevin Semlow tells Brownfield Ag News the legislation sets minimum construction standards through ag mitigation agreements for solar farms, “We’ve been in negotiations with solar companies on that and we are optimistic that we can come to an agreement on that legislation and get it moving here in the last few weeks of session.”
Semlow says solar companies would have to sign the agreement before construction could begin on a farm, “Which would provide for basic coverage and instructions on how they would use your land, how they would restore that land.
