Iowa passes foreign ag land ownership law

The issue of foreign ag land ownership has resulted in new legislation for another Midwestern state.

On Tuesday Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed into law a bill that gives the state attorney general subpoena power to ensure foreign adversaries like China are not investing in Iowa farmland.

“Constantly looking for any opening to assert themselves at the expense of our country. And one all too common weapon in this new battle is the purchase of American farmland.”

She says Iowa’s fertile soil and unmatched production capacity make the state a natural target.
