Mild, generally dry weather on the Plains vs. cool & damp in the far eastern Corn Belt

Across the Corn Belt, freezes occurred early Friday in portions of the upper Great Lakes region, outside any key corn or soybean production areas.  Cool, mostly dry weather prevails across the remainder of the Midwest, although many areas continue to experience fieldwork delays due to excess soil moisture.  Friday’s Midwestern high temperatures should generally range from 65 to 75°F.

On the Plains, mostly dry weather accompanies a warming trend.  Despite recent rainfall, drought still covered 75% of the winter wheat production area in top-producer Kansas on May 7, based on U.S.
