Minnesota Pork engaged with lawmakers during farm bill negotiations

The Minnesota Pork Producers Association is calling on Congress to finish the farm bill this year.

Policy director Lauren Servick tells Brownfield members recently visited Washington D.C. and another trip is planned later this month.

“A couple of key things within the farm bill that we’re hoping to see as things materialize hopefully by the end of Memorial Day, we would have foreign animal disease preparedness funding. That’s really critical as we continue to keep (African swine fever) top of mind, making sure that those preparedness efforts and planning efforts are in place.”

She says the next farm bill should support the Foreign Market Development and Market Access trade programs.
