Nearly 16,000 acres approved for hemp cultivation in Illinois

Interest in growing hemp this year remains steady in Illinois. Jeff Cox with the Illinois Department of Agriculture says more hemp license applications have been submitted than expected. “We have received a total of 694 grower applications. We have issued 451 grower applications and we have approved about 16,000 acres in the state of Illinois for hemp cultivation this year.” Cox says saturated soils have less of an impact on planting hemp compared to corn and soybeans.
