Russia offering China, others ag land investments to grow soybeans

The ongoing U.S.-China trade war might benefit Russia.

Russia’s Agriculture agency says it sold about 850-thousand metric tons of soybeans to China by May, about two-and-a-half times their previous sales.  Now, Chinese media reports say Kremlin officials have offered one million hectares or 2.5 million acres of arable land to foreign investors for agricultural purposes.   About half of that investment is expected to come from China.

Some analysts are skeptical, questioning the quality of the land Russia is offering, the climate of the region, and the lack of transportation infrastructure to move crops to market.
