New ideas are being studied to help swine producers keep their animals disease-free and healthy.
Dr. Megan Niederwerder with the Swine Health Information Center tells Brownfield they requested proposals for new swine research projects in October, and 41 ideas were submitted by the December 16th deadline. “Some examples may be an alternative to shower-in and shower-out for labor personnel shortages, and then you’ve got transportation such as the use or investigation into a deployable technology that would allow us to clean and disinfect trucks on the farm.”
Niederwerder tells Brownfield it was an outstanding response, and the proposals are being reviewed by a panel, which will recommend which ones get funded. She says there is an aggressive timeline to get the research started.
