US and Japan expected to sign “limited” trade deal today

President Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Abe are expected
to sign a limited trade deal in New York today.

Japanese officials are reportedly requesting an exemption
from tariffs on autos. There is some concern that if trump moves forward with
those tariffs Japan might retaliate with duties on U.S. farm goods. That
request is apparently holding up the final stages of the trade talks.

The potential agreement is crucial for US agriculture, but some
US lawmakers do not think a limited deal will even out the opportunities lost
for agriculture from pulling out of the TPP agreement.
