USDA, FDA to host joint meeting over fake meat

The USDA and FDA will hold a joint meeting to discuss the regulation and labeling of cell-based meat. There have been disagreements in the industry over which government agency should oversee the product.

Carmen Rottenberg is with the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

“It’s going to be focused primarily on oversight of the product, and then also hazards that could be associated with the product,” she says. “Each agency is spending some time talking about their respective authority.”

Ag groups, consumers, and other stakeholdersg leaders will participate in the meeting.
