Wisconsin harvest, fieldwork moving slowly in wet soils

Many Wisconsin farmers moved forward with harvesting last week, even though crop and field conditions were less than ideal.  USDA reporters say corn silage and alfalfa harvests are about finished, but soybeans and corn for grain are being harvested with high moisture levels, even with only 74% of the corn reaching maturity.  About 13% of corn for grain is harvested and 46% of the state’s soybean crop is harvested.

Many parts

of the state received up to three more inches of rain, with farmers increasingly

frustrated because they cannot get into fields. 

In areas where equipment could get in, there are concerns about moisture

in soybeans being above 15% and how deep ruts will affect tillage and manure

application.
