23-Year-Old Pierre Man Charged with Second Degree Murder in Stabbing Death

David J. Shangreaux Jr., a 23-year-old Pierre man, has been charged with Second Degree Murder in the stabbing death of 17-year-old Evie Maxey in a Pierre home.

The incident occurred on Nov. 30, and police responded to a disturbance call at 325 S. Brule Street.

Upon arrival, officers found Maxey already deceased.

Shangreaux is currently held in the Hughes County Jail, and his initial court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 7.

Pierre Police, along with the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and South Dakota Highway Patrol, conducted the investigation.

The case will be prosecuted by the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office and the Hughes County State’s Attorney’s Office.
