Pierre, SD – Governor Kristi Noem has appointed Capt. Casey Collins as the new Superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol, effective January 22, 2024.
With an impressive career in law enforcement and a proven track record of dedication and commitment, Capt. Collins assumes the leadership role as Superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol (SDHP), succeeding the retired Col. Rick Miller.
“Capt. Collins brings a wealth of experience and is well-positioned to lead the SDHP into its next chapter,” Secretary Robert Perry, Dept. of Public Safety, said. “I have full confidence in Capt. Collins’ ability to build upon the legacy left by Col. Miller and to continue prioritizing the safety and well-being of the citizens of South Dakota.”

The transfer of command for Capt. Collins will take place at a later date. Collins, who will be promoted to the rank of Colonel at that time, will become the 15th Superintendent in the history of the Highway Patrol, which was established in 1937.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is part of the Department of Public Safety.
