A tragic single-vehicle accident occurred five miles east of Mellette, South Dakota, resulting in the death of a 68-year-old driver and serious injuries to a 34-year-old passenger.
The incident, involving a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban, occurred on Thursday, November 23rd, when the vehicle entered the south ditch and collided with an approach on SD Hwy. 20.
The driver, flown to a Sioux Falls hospital, succumbed to injuries the following morning.
Both occupants were unrestrained, and their identities have not been disclosed pending family notification.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is actively investigating the crash.
