Shana Ries, a former teacher from Henry, South Dakota, entered a guilty plea for the charge of sexual contact with a child under 18 by a person in authority.
The plea was entered on Wednesday, admitting to the Class 6 felony, which carries a potential punishment of up to two years in a state correctional facility and/or a $4,000 fine.
As a result of the guilty plea, the prosecution dismissed four other charges, including three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and an additional charge of sexual contact with a child under 18 by a person in authority.
The incident was self-reported by Ries in March 2023.
A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for August 30.
