Four Injured in Crash Near Grand Falls Casino; Driver Suspected of Impairment

LARCHWOOD, Iowa — Four people were taken to Sioux Falls hospitals following a two-vehicle crash near the Grand Falls Casino on Friday night, Oct. 31.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, 36-year-old Kristina Espinoza of Doon was driving east on Beech Avenue when she failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection in front of a southbound GMC Yukon driven by 32-year-old Quyntin Maassen of Larchwood. Maassen’s vehicle struck the driver’s side of Espinoza’s Lincoln in a broadside collision.

Deputies said Espinoza sustained facial and other injuries and is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Her two passengers, ages 10 and 12, were also injured. Maassen’s passenger, 30-year-old Rachel Maassen, who was 36 weeks pregnant, was taken to Avera McKennan Hospital.

Both vehicles were totaled in the crash. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
