One Dead, One Injured in Early-Morning Shooting at Sioux Falls Apartment Complex

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — One person was killed and another injured in a shooting early Tuesday morning at an apartment complex near 43rd Street and Larch Avenue in western Sioux Falls.

Police responded to reports of gunfire around 5 a.m. and found two victims. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say the suspect fled to a nearby building, prompting a large police response that included the SWAT and Emergency Response teams. After a standoff lasting several hours, the suspect was taken into custody without incident around 8:30 a.m.

Police said the victims and suspect, all young adults, knew each other. This marks the 11th homicide in Sioux Falls this year — and the third at the same apartment complex. The suspect’s name has not yet been released.
