The North Dakota Public Service Commissioners unanimously voted to reject Summit Carbon Solution’s route permit application on Friday.
The regulators cited the company’s failure to demonstrate that their project would not have adverse effects on the environment and the state’s residents.
One of the commissioners, Julie Fedorchak, was replaced due to a conflict of interest as she had a contract with Summit.
Despite the setback, Summit Carbon Solutions responded positively, stating their commitment to revisiting the proposal and reapplying for the permit.
The decision in North Dakota precedes Summit’s upcoming hearing in South Dakota, scheduled for September.
