A man is dead after being shot by a Rapid City police officer on Tuesday.
The shooting happened at the 100 block of East Signal Drive around noon local time. Police were called to the scene to remove two male family members from the home, one of whom was violating a no-contact order.
When officers arrived, one of the men ran from the home. Officers chased him, but he reportedly ignored commands to stop and pulled a gun, pointing it at an officer. The officer fired at the man, who was struck and fell to the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second man came out of the home with an injury, but police do not know how he was injured. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The man who was shot had five active warrants for his arrest and was affiliated with a gang.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
This is the third officer-involved shooting in Rapid City this year.
