Recent heavy rains have led to improved drought conditions in South Dakota.
According to the latest drought monitor issued on Thursday, only one-third of the state is now experiencing dry conditions, marking the lowest rate since June 2020 based on historical data.
While the eastern third of the state continues to face moderate drought, the driest areas are concentrated around Sioux Falls in the southeast and Milbank in the northeast.
This improvement follows a significant rainfall event over the weekend, during which several inches of rain were recorded across large areas of the state.
