U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson recently discussed the status of the upcoming Farm Bill and legislation on “Product of USA” labeling during a visit to Sioux Falls.
Johnson, a member of the subcommittee creating the Farm Bill’s language, highlighted the bill’s importance in providing federal safety nets, farm loans, conservation programs, and disaster assistance to farmers.
He emphasized the challenge of creating a bill that provides five years of predictability for producers.
Johnson, who has played a key role in drafting the new Farm Bill, expects the House to pass it in the next few months.
He also discussed recently passed legislation that redefines “Product of USA” labeling, ensuring products labeled as such are born, raised, slaughtered, and processed in the USA.
Both the new Farm Bill and labeling laws are expected to be completed by this summer.
