A Busy Saturday Afternoon for First Responders

Mitchell first responders had a busy Saturday afternoon. A number of organizations successfully located a small girl who was reported missing in the Loma Linda area of southwest Mitchell for just under two hours. She was found along a fence line near the westbound lanes of I-90 shortly before 3 pm.

Around 4:40 pm firefighters responded to a vehicle fire in the north alley in the 400 block of East Seventh at the rear of a residence. Battalion Chief Zach Dalrymple says a minivan was engulfed in flames. “The Fire Department pulled an attack line from the engine,” said Dalrymple. “And within 45 seconds to one-minute, had the fire knocked down.”

He says the fire was deemed out within five minutes of their arrival on the scene.

The vehicle was considered a loss. He says no one was hurt and firefighters returned to the station soon after.
