To celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, the Idaho Potato Commission unveiled a record-setting patriotic display made from 250,000 Idaho® potatoes at Mitchell’s County Fair Food Store. Justin Luther is store manager. “We stacked up 120,000 pounds of potatoes, and the best part about it is we’re going to give most of that away,” said Luther.

The plan started as a collaboration between County Fair, American Wholesale Grocers and the Idaho Potato Commission.
Susanne Gale is Senior Development Officer for Feeding South Dakota. “We are just so grateful for companies like this and County Fair that think about feeding South Dakota and think about our neighbors who are facing food insecurity,” Gale said.
Patrick Mills is with the Idaho Potato Commission where the spuds originated. “We had a great crop this year, and we wanted to do something to give back a little,” Mills said. “We picked a couple of partners, business partners, and AWG and County Fair were two of the best that we have in this area.”

The potatoes arrived in several semi-loads. The display took about two hours with a lot of help to assemble.
