Department of Corrections crews assisting with storm cleanup

Secretary of Corrections Nick Lamb says a disaster response crew consisting of 15 offenders from the Sioux Falls Minimum Center and 3 Department of Corrections staff members were deployed Monday to assist with cleanup efforts in Harrisburg following weekend storms.

An additional DOC crew has been requested and will begin assisting with cleanup efforts in Hartford on July 28th.

“Our offenders continue to provide meaningful assistance to communities across our state,” said Gov. Larry Rhoden. “These crews will help clear debris and support recovery efforts in Harrisburg and Hartford. I’m grateful for their service to fellow South Dakotans.”

“Our crews remain ready and willing to help,” said Secretary of Corrections Nick Lamb. “They will assist with the removal of debris from streets, parks, and boulevards as long as they are needed.”

Earlier this month, DOC crews concluded assistance with storm cleanup in the Highmore and Huron areas that resulted in more than 2,700 hours worked.
