A 59 year old man from Redfield, South Dakota died last Wednesday in a single-vehicle crash versus train crash near Redfield.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported around 7:22 pm on July 29th, a BNSF train was traveling southbound on the train tracks just outside Redfield city limits. At the same time, the driver Jeep Wrangler Unlimited was traveling westbound on 174th Street. The Jeep struck the train as it entered the intersection. The driver sustained fatal injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is leading the investigation which is ongoing.
Names of the those involved have not been released pending notification of family members. All information released is preliminary.
