Father and son recognized for life saving efforts

A father and son were recognized Wednesday for saving a couple and their dog from a mobile home fire in Mount Vernon on April11th. Deputy Trestin Jerke was conducting a traffic stop when he and his father Shawn, who was riding along, responded. Trestin entered through the back door. “I located two adults,” said Jerke. “They were able to get up and exit the residence. I was told that there was a pet inside of the residence and the pet was located in the front living room right where the fire was taking place.”

He handed the kennel to his father Shawn. “Went back out again,” said Shawn. “And then he went back into the house there to grab the car keys so we could move the vehicle so they wouldn’t get started on fire.”

Dave Sweet and his wife Alyssa were grateful. “I had no idea, we were dead asleep,” said Dave. “If it wasn’t for what Tristan did, we probably wouldn’t be standing here today.”
