A 59 year old man from Alexandria died Friday evening in a single vehicle crash near Alexandria.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported shortly after 8pm, the 31 year old male driver of a Dodge Dakota was traveling westbound on SD 42 near mile marker 311 while pulling a trailer loaded with lumber. The driver lost control of the trailer while going down a hill. The Dodge entered the north ditch, rolled, and became separated from the trailer. The passenger was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. The driver was taken to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell with minor injuries. Neither of the pickup’s occupants were wearing seatbelts.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is leading the crash investigation which is ongoing. All information released is preliminary.
